Catholic prayers through the day
Catholic morning prayers
Many Catholics begin the day by offering it to God: the sign of the cross, the Morning Offering, the acts of faith, hope, and charity, and the Song of Zechariah, the Benedictus, which is also the Gospel canticle of Lauds.
In the Catholic Church the official prayer of the hours is the Liturgy of the Hours: Lauds in the morning, Daytime Prayer at midday, Vespers in the evening, and Night Prayer (Compline) before sleep. MyOratory's Catholic hours gather the traditional prayers that many Catholics say at these times.
The Sign of the Cross
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
The Morning Offering
O Jesus, through the most pure Heart of Mary, I offer thee all the prayers, works, and sufferings of this day, for all the intentions of thy Divine Heart. Amen.
Glory Be
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
The Acts of Faith, Hope, and Charity
O my God, I firmly believe that thou art one God in three divine Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost; I believe that thy divine Son became man, and died for our sins, and that he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe these and all the truths which the holy Catholic Church teaches, because thou hast revealed them, who canst neither deceive nor be deceived.
O my God, relying on thy infinite goodness and promises, I hope to obtain pardon of my sins, the help of thy grace, and life everlasting, through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer.
O my God, I love thee above all things, with my whole heart and soul, because thou art all-good and worthy of all love. I love my neighbour as myself for the love of thee. I forgive all who have injured me, and ask pardon of all whom I have injured. Amen.
The Song of Zechariah (Benedictus)
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people; and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David (as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets who have been from of old), salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us; to show mercy toward our fathers, to remember his holy covenant, the oath which he swore to Abraham our father, to grant to us that we, being delivered out of the hand of our enemies, should serve him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life. And you, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways, to give knowledge of salvation to his people by the remission of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the dawn from on high will visit us, to shine on those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death; to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Luke 1:68–79 (World English Bible)
The Our Father
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
May the divine assistance
℣May the divine assistance remain always with us.
℟Amen.
℣And may the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
℟Amen.
